The Flavian Amphitheatre, best known as the Coliseum, is one of the most famous monuments of the Roman times. It owes its name, Coliseum, to the nearby enormous bronze statue of Nero that, precisely for its dimensions, was known as the Colossus of Nero.
Sightseeing areas nearby: The Domus Aurea, the Imperial Fora, the Basilica of Maxentius, the Roman Forum, Circus Maximus.
Access to the Coliseum is in Piazza Del Colosseo.
The easiest way to arrive at the Coliseum is via the B line of the subway, getting off at the "Colosseo" stop: at the exit, you shall admire the Flavian Amphitheatre in all its majesty.
The Coliseum can also be easily reached by bus, since many lines stop right in front of it (n° 3, 8, 75, 175, 271).
If you are by car, you can get there by driving through Via dei Fori Imperiali or Via Celio Vibenna: traffic in the area is extremely busy and all parking spots are pay and display.
